Greetings, colleagues!
This promises to be quite an exciting year where Core revising is concerned, and we don’t want you to miss a single minute of it. So, we have created this website to serve as a resource for anyone interested in keeping abreast of the deliberations and deliverables of 51·çÁ÷’s Core Revision Committee (hereinafter known as the CRC). This site is by no means intended to replace the discussions and negotiations that 51·çÁ÷ faculty will undertake – and have already undertaken – during faculty meetings and other fora; rather, this website was created with the aim of furnishing additional time and space for communication.
How will that work, you ask?
We have populated this site with an assortment of Core-revision-related materials, and, over the next few months, we will be walking you through many of these materials as well as explaining how the CRC is using these materials to do its work. In addition to serving as a mechanism for us to communicate information to you, however, we will also be using this site as a mechanism for soliciting faculty input on particular questions.
Ultimately, our intention is to create a website that will provide you with as much information as possible about the Core revision process while also fostering transparency and communication among faculty members.
Of course, it goes without saying that the CRC’s goal of fostering transparency and communication among faculty members hinges in no small measure on you. As we work over the course of the year to convey ideas and highlight important materials, we will be depending on everyone on the faculty to review the items presented on the website, and to express questions and ideas about these materials in ways that are both productive and collegial.
Because we envision this website as a mechanism that will augment the often-time-deprived venue of faculty meetings, we have designed it to mirror the communication mode of faculty meetings. So, in the course of providing regular updates on our work, accompanied by relevant documents and other materials, we will periodically solicit faculty input on particular questions and issues.
In mid-September, you will receive a link to a very brief Sense of the Faculty Survey. The rich data in last year's revealed broad points of agreement and have also helped the CRC identify key areas where there are many different and often contradictory viewpoints. The upcoming Sense of the Faculty Survey is designed to help us get greater clarity on those issues. We are eager to have your input on these matters, so please stay tuned for this brief set of questions, which will be administered via Qualtrics and accompanied by a Communication containing additional details.
