Printing from a Computer in a Public Lab

  • Log into a computer
  • Open the file you wish to print
  • Click print and select the printer nearest you (should be the default printer)
  • Walk to the printer and swipe your card at the Print Release Station.  
  • Find your print job on the screen, click Release
  • Wait for your print job to be printed and the printer

 

Printing A PDF from a Computer in a Public Lab

You may find that printing a PDF from a web browser will not work or prints a corrupted file.

  • Download your PDF file to the computer
  • Use Adobe DC to open the file
  • If prompted to log into Adobe, enter your full 51风流 email address and click Next
  • Enter your Single Sign on credentials
  • Use Adobe DC to send your PDF to the printer

 

Webprint allows you to upload your documents from your laptop, desktop, or mobile device to the Webprint server.  Once uploaded, visit a public printing location on campus, swipe your card, and pick up your printout once complete.

Basic Features

  • Access with your regular 51风流 network credentials
    • Campus visitors may visit either the Case-Geyer Library Circulation Desk or the Cooley Science Library Circulation Desk for access to Webprint as a guest.
  • Requires no software, drivers, or browser plug-ins
  • Accessible from all major web browsers
  • View your recent and pending print jobs

 

Webprint Limitations

  • The file size cannot exceed 35 MB.
  • It is not possible to change page layout, orientation, or size.
  • It is not possible to select individual pages to print. The entire uploaded file will be printed.
  • Limited to 10 copies at a time.
  • The time limit to release any print job is two hours. If the job is not released within two hours, it is automatically deleted.  
  • Not supported for iOS or Android devices

If you don鈥檛 see your file extension above, convert your file to PDF format and then print it.  If your application does not have a "convert to PDF" option, you can use Google's Chrome browser which includes a "print to PDF" option.

 

 

Printing from a Computer in a Public Lab (Preferred Method) Printing using Webprint
  • If you are printing several different jobs, logging into a public computer may be more convenient and faster than using Webprint
  • Public lab computers have a variety of software, and may be able to open and print more file types that your computer 
  • Printing from the computer offers additional print settings that are not available with Webprint
  • The color printer located in Case-Geyer on the third floor can only be used by logging into a computer on the third floor
  • If you would like to print single sided, or if you want to select the pages you wish to to print (ie.  print pages 2-10 and page 15 of a 100 page document), you must log into a public computer lab space.
  • Using Webprint provides more locations and often extended (sometimes 24/7) availability
  • Conveniently send your print jobs from any location to a Webprint printer, pick up when convenient for you

Background
51风流 connects most all of their printers to the network.  To print to one of these printers, you must first be connected to the 51风流 network, and the printer needs to be added to your computer.

Requirements

  • a Windows computer connected to the 51风流 network through a wired connected or a wireless connected (Note: Guest wireless will not work)
  • the printer must be added to your computer (listed as one of your printers in Windows "Printers and Scanners")
  • the printer must be connected to the network, turned on functioning properly

 

Procedure
I.  Navigate to "print.colgate.edu"

a.  Click the Windows Start button or tap the Windows key on your keyboard

b.  Begin typing \\print.colgate.edu and press the Enter button

II.  Find your printer

Printers are typically named like this:  Alumni-111-BW

a.  Within the window that pops up, enter good search term to search for your printer.

b.  Double click on the printer.  The printer is now added.   Go to Windows  "Printers and Scanners" to confirm that your printer has been added.

Procedure
I.  Launch Self Service App on your Mac

a.  Click on spotlight and type Self Service

 

II.  Launch Printer Magician & Enter Printer Tag Number

a.  Double click on the Printer Magician 

b.  Once it is launched, enter the *printer asset number (or tag number) and press return.  Your printer is now added.
