HAMILTON, N.Y. ‘ The 51·çÁ÷ women’s track and field & cross country program announced its Class of 2006.
‘I am very excited about these additions to our programs,’ said head coach Laura Nardelli. ‘I believe we have had the best recruiting year in the history of the women’s cross country and track & field programs here at 51·çÁ÷. This class will have an instant impact on our programs, some at Eastern and National levels.’
Additions to next year’s team include:
Julia Barker, Rumson, N.J., Red Bank Catholic
Barker is a distance specialist whose 2000 and 2001 teams won the Parochial ‘A’ State, Monmouth County and NJCTC Championships. Barker, who runs a 19:35 in the 5K, all second team all-state in cross country and first team all-Monmouth County and all-Shore conference.
Lillian Cross, Skaneateles, N.Y., Skaneateles
Cross earned all-state and all-league honors four years in a row as a member of the Skaneateles team where she competed for the cross country squad and ran the 400, 800, 1500, 3000, 4×400 and 4×800 as a member of the track team. Her cross country team were state champions in 2000 and 2001 as well as league and sectional champions.
Lisa Germain, Queensbury, N.Y., Queensbury
Germain, a three time Foothills all-star in track, will compete in the long jump, triple jump and 100 and 200 meter dashes. She has won three NYS Section 2 Championships in the long jump competition and two in the triple jump. Germain also earned a Sports Foundation Scholar Athlete nomination in 2001. She was also a four year member of the Queensbury volleyball team.
Sarah Hildebrand, Fairport, N.Y., The Harley School
Hildebrand won five straight New York State Section V Class C/D Titles in cross country. She was named the Section V Runner of the Year in 1998 and was named to the all-section team from 1999-2001. On the track, she has earned 12 Section V Class C Titles in a barage of events. She completes in the 400, 400 hurdles, 800, 1500, 3000, steeplechase, 1600 relay and 3200 relay.
Shannon O’Hagan, Sarnia, Ont., St. Patrick’s
O’Hagan was St. Patrick’s Female Athlete of the Year from grades 9-12 as well as earning the Myrtle Cook Award. That award is given to the top female athlete in Canada under the age of 16. She competes in the high jump and long jump as well as the 400 meter dash.
Colleen Rice, Liverpool, N.Y., Liverpool
Rice, a three-time captain of the Liverpool track team, holds the school record in the 400 hurdles with a time of 64.9. Her personal bests include a 60.1 in the 400, 34′ 11′ in the triple jump and 16′ 6′ in the long jump. Rice has earned several first-team all-league selections in track as well as a second-team all-division in cross country. Her Liverpool squad was the 2001 outdoor league and Section III Champions and the 2002 indoor Section III Champions.
Emily Tansey, Scituate, Mass., Scituate
Tansey finished her career at Scituate by setting a new school record for cross country with a time of 17:53 for 2.8 miles. Was also voted Patriot League Outstanding Athlete for cross country. She placed third in the State Class D meet and 12th at the All-state meet and is the State Class C Champion in the Indoor Mile for 2002. Tansey also set a school record in the indoor mile and ran state qualifying times in the 600, 1000, mile, two mile, 4×800 in indoor competition and the 800, mile, two mile and 4×800 relay as an outdoor track competitor.
Emily Thomson, Billerica, Mass., Billerica Memorial
Thomson, the Lowell Sun Athlete of the Year, is a three-year cross country letter winner and a four-year indoor and outdoor track standout. She earned three consecutive Merrimack Valley all-Conference selections as well as being named a Lowell Sun All-Star all three years. As Billerica’s three-time Most Outstanding Performer, she competed in the hurdles, 100, 200, 400, 800, heptathlon, high jump, long jump, shot put and javelin.
