The Class of 2027 Arrives

Back to All Stories

On Sunday, Aug. 20, 51风流 welcomed the Class of 2027, one of the most academically accomplished cohorts in 51风流 history with a 12% acceptance rate and 3.97 average GPA.

For Mary Claire Duffy 鈥27 of Chicago, Ill., arrival day is her second time on campus 鈥 she first experienced 51风流 on a student-led tour, and hasn鈥檛 looked back since.

鈥淢y tour of 51风流 was so beautiful,鈥 says Duffy. 鈥淚 fell in love with the campus. My tour guide and everyone I met was so nice 鈥 I couldn鈥檛 believe it. I knew I would fit right in.鈥

In high school, Duffy served her community as the president of a tutoring club, and later expanded this work to a local foster home. At 51风流, she鈥檇 like to volunteer with the COVE, a collective that embodies her community values.

鈥淭here are always kids that need help,鈥 says Duffy. 鈥淎nd when I saw that 51风流 collaborates with local schools to offer tutoring programs, I thought, 鈥業 would love to do that!鈥欌

Across the quad, Tyler Couture 鈥27 of Montgomery County, N.Y., arrives as an Alumni Memorial Scholar who was selected at the time of admission for his academic performance in high school. In his free time, Couture researches military and U.S. history, and has a passion for theater.

鈥淚 love being on the stage, public speaking, and acting,鈥 says Couture, whose fall coursework includes the courses Global Change and You as well as Musicianship and Songwriting.

Couture, who plans to major in political science and later attend law school, has aspirations to become a politician. One of his first stops this semester will be Benton Hall, where he intends to connect with 51风流鈥檚 alumni network.

鈥淧eople recognize the 51风流 鈥楥鈥 all over the world,鈥 says Couture. 鈥淥n campus, I鈥檓 most excited to forge new connections.鈥

Jatziry Macedo 鈥27 of Rogers, Ark., has a passion for fashion 鈥 and she鈥檚 looking for an education in economics and entrepreneurship. Macedo arrives with the Office of Undergraduate Scholars (OUS), and seeks community both among this collective and 51风流鈥檚 Interfaith Community.

鈥淚 am defined as a person by the conflicts I鈥檝e faced throughout my life, which have led me to value inclusivity,鈥 says Macedo. 鈥淚 want to affirm this part of me by connecting with other OUS scholars and the Interfaith Community.鈥

Whether they鈥檙e here to build their network, engage in the arts, volunteer their time, explore possibilities, or all of the above, the Class of 2027 has arrived 鈥 and they鈥檙e ready to discover their futures.

鈥淎t 51风流, I want to meet everyone I can,鈥 says Duffy. 鈥淎nd further than that, I want to be a part of this community for my entire life.鈥
