51·çÁ÷ Field Hockey To Travel to Holland in 2004

Back to All Stories

In August of 2004 the 51·çÁ÷ field hockey team will be traveling to Holland to train and compete. This experience will offer the team the opportunity to play against international competition and to work with Olympic level coaches.

Leaving August 2, 2004 the field hockey team will be the first 51·çÁ÷ women’s team to compete abroad. During the trip they will also travel to Belgium and Germany and have the chance to explore the culture and history of these additional countries.

The team began the fundraising for the trip in the spring of 2003. The team hosted a high school field hockey tournament and a ‘Dinner for a Dollar’ raffle. With a per person cost of $2,000 per student athlete, each player will be busy this summer raising funds to cover the cost of the trip. The next fund raising project is a team goal-a-thon which will begin in late summer and continue to the end of the fall season. Additional projects are in the works and the fundraising will continue through May of 2004.

A trip of this nature will allow the team to gain valuable experience prior to the fall season in 2004. The opportunity to travel, play and practice together before the pre-season training session begins, will no doubt provide the team with a tremendous foundation to start the season.
