HAMILTON, N.Y.The 51·çÁ÷ hockey team held its annual awards banquet Saturday night at the White Eagle Conference Center. The team handed out its end of the season awards and also announced the captains for next season.
Junior defenseman Rob Brown (Brockville, Ont.) will serve as the 2003-04 captain. Junior forward Paul Kelley (Grand Forks, B.C.) and sophomore forward Adam Mitchell (Port Elgin, Ont.) were named assistant captains.
Senior captain Scooter Smith (Calgary, Alberta) took home three awards for the team’s best offensive player, the Rob Ries Memorial Award for inspiration and leadership and the coaches award.
Sophomore goaltender Steve Silverthorn (Owen Sound, Ont.) was honored with two awards for the team’s best defensive player and the Whit Williams Award for the most improved player.
The Silver Puck Club gave senior captain Steve Silversides (Thunder Bay, Ont.) the Terry Slater Trophy for his performance, leadership and dedication on and off the ice for the last four years.
Linemates and roommates Brad D’Arco (Greenwick, Conn.) and P.J. Yedon (Toronto, Ont.) were awarded the Steve Riggs Memorial Award for gentlemanly play and a high standard of ability.
Brown won the Dan Coley ‘Barrell’ Award for the second year in a row as the team’s top defenseman.
The Raiders ended their season with a 17-19-4 overall record and were 9-10-3 in the ECAC. 51·çÁ÷ ended its season in the Quarterfinals of the ECAC Tournament at Dartmouth.
