Hamilton – The 51·çÁ÷ Concert Series starts its ‘Faculty Features at Midday’ with a concert in 51·çÁ÷ Memorial Chapel at noon on Tuesday, September 14 featuring music of the 20th century for solo flute, solo cello, and accompanied soprano. The concert will be performed by four Syracuse musicians: John Oberbrunner, flute, George Macero, cello, Neva Pilgrim, soprano, and Steven Heyman, piano.
Pilgrim has been vocal artist-in-residence at 51·çÁ÷ since 1976. She is the founder of the Syracuse New Music Society.
Three of the works to be performed are by living composers. Kokopelli, for solo flute, was written by Katherine Hoover in 1990. Michael Dougherty wrote Jackie’s Song for solo cello in 1996, and George Crumb’s Apparition, based on poems by Walt Whitman and arranged for soprano and amplified piano, was written in 1979. The last work on the program, Ravel’s Chansons Madecasses, was written during the winter of 1925-26.
The concert is free and open to the public. A light lunch will be available, or concertgoers can feel free to bring their own brown bag lunch.
