Thursday afternoon and I’ve completely lost my will to work. Television and reading for class both seemed unappetizing. My friend Andy appeared at my door.
‘There’s a poetry reading downtown in the bookstore. Want to go”
‘Sure,’ I say. I hadn’t opened my books anyway.
‘It’s the students from the Advanced Poetry Workshop. They’re doing a reading with their professor,’ he added.
We sat among a healthy group of students, faculty, and Hamilton residents, all joined by a common appreciation for poetry. Just a different way to spend a somewhat overcast afternoon. Eating brownies, drinking coffee, and sitting amongst friends.
Andy and I left an hour later, feeling a little more cultured and far more enlightened. Not quite enlightened enough to do work though.
