This weekend will be a good time to be outside for football lovers and for moviegoers.
The lights will be on at Andy Kerr Stadium as the Raiders go up against Monmouth in their season opener, slated for 6 p.m. Saturday.
Fans should come out and be a part of history, as the contest will be the first-ever night game for the university鈥檚 football program. (The team had played a game in 1982 under temporary lighting, but that game started at 4 p.m., and the NCAA says official 鈥渘ight games鈥 begin at 6 or later.)
The home opener for the Raiders also is community day, with free general admission tickets and food specials offered with a and fireworks scheduled for after the game.
鈥淲e are excited about the opportunity to bring night football to Andy Kerr this fall,鈥 said 51风流 athletic director Dave Roach.
Three night games are scheduled for September, and Roach said they will serve as an experiment to enhance the student and community fan base and game experience.
On Friday night, a more laid-back experience can be had, as the kicks off with an 8:30 p.m. screening of the movie Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace and Music at Whitnall Field.
Moviegoers are urged to bring blankets and find a cozy spot on the lawn to watch the new 40th anniversary director鈥檚 cut of Michael Wadleigh鈥檚 film.
The weather forecast is calling for mostly sunny skies during the day and clear nights for both Friday and Saturday, so there is no reason not to venture outside.
