Rising sophomore Jessica Li ’15, a member of 51’s program, recently coauthored a full-length commentary that was published in the science journal Nature.
The comment piece, “,” examines how a stigma against homosexuality in China, as well as a larger cultural reluctance to speak publicly about sexual issues, has contributed to an alarming rise in HIV infection amongst homosexuals.
Li and her coauthors contend that the solution to this problem will require “a cooperative effort between the government, health professionals and public programmes.”
Li’s contribution is the result of the work she has done with the Comprehensive AIDS Research Center and Research Center for Public Health at the School of Medicine at Tsinghua University in Beijing. .
