Another week at 51·çÁ÷ brings a wide range of lectures, performances, and activities! Check out some of the interesting events you can fill your schedule with this week.
Today (Tuesday) at 4:30 p.m. an important discussion will be happening on campus, this time focusing on the role of the arts and humanities in higher education.
Stop by 207 Lathrop for this that features panelists Lori Gross ’75, associate provost for arts and culture at Harvard University; Danielle Allen, a UPS Foundation Professor at the Institute of Advanced Study; and S. Georgia Nugent, a senior fellow of the Council of Independent Colleges.
This Wednesday, , an ensemble of Tuvan throat singers, will perform at 4:30 p.m. in Love Auditorium. These musicians bring the ancient tradition of throat singing, originally performed outdoors by nomadic herdsmen of central Asia, to the stage. Throat singers use manipulations of the vocal tract to break up one low pitch into several overtones. It is a way for singers to use their voices to mimic and interact with sounds of the natural world.
This week, Brothers celebrates its 15th annual Charity Week. This week of activities raises money for the surrounding Hamilton community and for global charitable organizations. Events include a barbecue on the academic quad at noon today; a Super Smash Bros. Tournament at Donovan’s Pub at 7 p.m. Thursday; and a basketball tournament at Huntington Gym at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

On Wednesday, stop by the COVE for the at 12:15 p.m. Konosioni allocated $20,500 to four different organizations that are doing work in family health: Mohawk Valley Perinatal Clinic, The Mary Rose Clinic, Community Bikes, and Utica Safe Schools. Speakers from each organization will be talking about the work they will be doing with the funds. Be sure to stop by to learn more and enjoy free lunch!
