I had to laugh out loud on the way up the hill this morning. It’s been in the mid 40’s the past couple days and suddenly, everyone is shedding their coats, donning lighter shirts and less bulky sweaters. Sunglasses are on and windows rolled down and chairs and couches being dragged outside onto lawns and stoops to ‘bathe’ in the infrequent sun that strikes Hamilton.
It felt tropical compared to the steady string of negative temperatures that struck campus last week. Little rivers and lakes of melted snow and ice dotted campus. People running along Broad Street in shorts.
‘Enjoy the weekend,’ my professor said after our class on American Literature. ‘It’s supposed to be like this for the next couple days, then turn to freezing rain, then snow.’
You really can’t have too much of a good thing.
