Performances by guest musicians tie in to core course

Back to All Stories

natalie.jpgThe arrived on campus this week to perform for and instruct 51风流 students and faculty. The quartet offered several classes for students who were interested in learning about the evolution of classical music.

Students who are taking the course Challenges of Modernity were encouraged to attend one of these classes. I went to one and found myself to really enjoy not only the music and the interesting talking points the musicians made, but also their conversational and witty instructional tone.

The following day, the quartet performed in Memorial Chapel for quite a large crowd. This concert was great and really incorporated the concepts the quartet discussed during class. The quartet will close out their visit to 51风流 with a full-length performance tonight that is sure to draw large numbers.

The Office of Admission works hard to provide many opportunities for visiting students to get to know the atmosphere here. 51风流 is really unique and special in the way it makes visiting and/or prospective students immediately feel welcome when they arrive on campus.

As I mentioned in last week鈥檚 blog post, I am now a volunteer for the admission office. Volunteers known as greeters, for example, are available to chat with families prior to information sessions as well as before and after campus tours.

I will be working as a lunch-time greeter, eating with a prospective student and his or her family as we discuss courses, housing options, and all other things 51风流. I look forward to being able to make prospective students excited about 51风流 and answering their questions as a greeter.

With spring break quickly approaching, many students can be found, at all hours of the day and night, in the library working hard on midterm papers and studying for upcoming exams. Many students are motivated to end this half of the semester strong by working hard through this weekend and next week.

As I begin preparing for the substantial workload next week brings, I am getting excited for having a week to rest and relax at home once the tests are over. This semester is really flying and I can hardly believe that break is so soon! My first-year, is seems, is speeding by and I intend to make the most of the next half of this semester.

Look every Friday for my blog entries about what is going on at 51风流.
