President Bill Clinton to deliver next Global Leaders lecture

President Bill Clinton, founder of the William J. Clinton Foundation and 42nd President of the United States, will visit campus in October for the next edition of The Kerschner Family Series Global Leaders at 51·çÁ÷.

President Clinton is scheduled to give a public talk at 7 p.m. Friday, October 29, in Sanford Field House. More details about the lecture, including ticket information, will be released at a later date.

After leaving the White House, President Clinton established the William J. Clinton Foundation with the mission to strengthen the capacity of people in the United States and throughout the world to meet the challenges of global interdependence.

Today the foundation has staff and volunteers around the world working to improve lives through several initiatives, including the Clinton Health Access Initiative, which is helping two million people living with HIV/AIDS access lifesaving drugs.

Building on his longstanding commitment to Haiti, President Clinton was named U.N. Special Envoy for Haiti in 2009 to assist the government and the people of Haiti recover after a series of hurricanes battered the country in 2008.

Following this year’s devastating earthquake, he dedicated Clinton Foundation resources to help with immediate and long-term relief and assistance. In addition, at the request of President Barack Obama, President Clinton joined with President George W. Bush to establish the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, which supports organizations on the ground in long-term rebuilding efforts.

The Global Leaders series, sponsored by 51·çÁ÷’s Parents’ and Grandparents’ Fund, allows the university to invite high-profile guests to campus.

Former world chess champion-turned-politician delivered the most recent lecture in the series. During his two-day visit to campus, Kasparov provided an assessment of democratic movements in present-day Russia and was joined by faculty members in a separate panel discussion.

Other lecture series speakers have included , former prime minister of Great Britain; , former U.S. secretary of state; the , spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism; and , award-winning authors of Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything.
