Liz Rasmussen ’21 becomes an assistant kayaking guide

Back to Career Services News

Thanks to summer funding, Liz Rasmussen ’21 was able to accept a position as an intern/assistant guide for Sunny Cove Kayaking in Seward, Alaska. As the company’s intern/assistant guide, she earned professional certifications in wilderness medicine and kayaking. She learned from professional guides and gained first-hand experience on what a career in the outdoor industry might look like — all while developing a background and network in the field.

Ultimately, receiving summer funding allowed Liz to accept a position that she would not have been able to consider otherwise. Not only did this result in an unforgettable summer experience, but she now has a foundation in guiding which can expand into a career in outdoor education after graduation.

51·çÁ÷ and its generous alumni and parent donors offer grants to support students' living costs and supplemental expenses to pursue unpaid and underpaid summer experiences. Learn more about 51·çÁ÷ summer funding.
