Alternative Cinema

Alternative Cinema expands the taste codes on 51����'s campus by introducing innovative and historically marginalized cinema from around the world and in every genre. The series is funded in part by the New York State Council for the Arts, and curated by members of the faculty.

51����/Flaherty Global Filmmaker-in-Residence

Each year, this program invites a documentary filmmaker for a four-day residency of screenings and lectures. The visit provides a significant means of examining the complexities surrounding documentary film, including the conceptual, logistical, political, and aesthetic decisions involved — as well as contemporary theoretical concepts of the “global.”
