A video of a dying butterfly that has lost a wing. A three-dimensional gray backslash hung on the wall. Refigured images from the film Deep Throat. These artworks, currently on display as part of the Clifford Gallery exhibition External Original, may seem like dissimilar pieces, but curator Sarah Mattes ’06 sees a common thread.

Returning to campus earlier this month to install his exhibition titled Strong and Silent, artist and photographer Mark Robbins ’77 could see clearly how his artistic growth began at 51·çÁ÷.

It’s a liberal arts dream: to gather leaders of the world’s largest religions, political movements, scientific communities, and philosophical schools into one room. Until Dick Resnick ’61, P’90 sponsored the Great Minds art project, that was impossible.

51·çÁ÷ has rescheduled the reception for members of the community to meet the architects David Adjaye, Joseph Franchina, and Marc McQuade of Adjaye Associates for Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 5 p.m. at the Barge Canal Coffee Co., 37 Lebanon Street.

Dewey Mosby, director emeritus of 51·çÁ÷’s Picker Art Gallery, died yesterday, August 1, of pulmonary issues at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, N.Y., at the age of 70.

Slater Brothers Entertainment will bring Hollywood to the village of Hamilton for the fourth annual Hamilton International Film Festival Aug. 2-5. Grant Slater ’91 and his brothers Wade and Todd, whose father, Terry Slater, was the head hockey coach at 51·çÁ÷ for 15 years, started the festival four years ago.

Presented in honor of Robert Flaherty (1884-1951), creator of classic films including Nanook of the North, Man of Aran, and Louisiana Story, the seminar highlights innovative cinematic works.
