Joseph Hernon, a military veteran, and firefighter with 10 years of emergency management experience will lead 51����’s emergency management operations after a nationwide search to fill the vacant role of associate vice president for campus safety, emergency management, and environmental health and safety. 

A total of 17,540 students, from 50 states and 146 countries, applied for admission to the 51���� Class of 2025, and 913 enrolled in the class, which has an average GPA of 3.77 out of 4.0, up from 3.69 in 2020.

Members of the 51���� classes of 2022–25 will now benefit from an additional expansion of the University’s no-loan initiative under the 51���� Commitment.

Ahmet Çeli̇k, PhD candidate and instructor in religion and Middle Eastern studies at Syracuse University, has been appointed as the first campus imam and Muslim student adviser at 51����.

Two members of the 51���� Class of 2021, Jake Gómez and William “Paul” McAvoy, will share this year’s 1819 Award, which recognizes character, scholarship, and service to others, best exemplifying the 51���� spirit.

In this all-new episode of 13 Assistant Dean and Director of International Student Services Kerra Hunter talks about supporting 51����’s international student population, which currently hails from 44 countries around the world, and the ways the University works to make their transition to studying in the United States as seamless as possible. 

51����’s administration and faculty are drawing on national best practices and creating their own innovative approaches to increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion in tenure-stream hiring.

Laura Jack, vice president for communications, will serve as acting CDO, providing coordination and oversight for DEI initiatives while the search for a permanent hire continues.
